The whisky spent its entire maturation in ex-Maury fortified wine casks — 19 casks in total — a production choice so rare it is almost unheard of in Scotch whisky. Maury is a naturally sweet, fortified wine from the Roussillon region of southern France, crafted primarily from Grenache Noir grapes — the same dark, brooding variety behind some of the world's great fortified reds.
