"Going right in. Lagavulin 2024 Special Release 58. 4% ABV. I was going to wait a few more days before opening it… but that was impossible. 😁 Nose & Taste: Wooooow… honestly, this is the kind of whisky that makes anyone stop and admire it. Absolutely stunning 👍!!! Right away, a smoky aroma rolls in together with a salty sea breeze. But interestingly, after a few sniffs, it’s almost like your nose goes numb and the smoke fades into the background. 🤨 The palate is a straight-up haymaker punch. 🥊 Your tongue gets shocked first… then this huge wave of flavor crashes in. Behind a gentle layer of peat comes a sweet cream bun piled high with fruits. What I picked up was banana with cream, coconut, vanilla, lemon, lime, and even grapefruit… and this is from a fresh neck pour. The colors and layers are incredibly vibrant. There’s also this coastal character that reminds me a bit of canned olives. The peat brings campfire wood, smoke, and ash, but after the first sip it melts into the other flavors so naturally that there’s zero harshness or resistance. The finish gives black pepper, hot mustard, tobacco, and espresso vibes. The finish is looooong and deep 😍 And warmly spicy too. ^^ A beautiful Scotch.
