This is a 12year old, unpeated Islay single malt from Bunnahabhain, bottled at full cask strength.
The 2025 edition is made primarily from second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, with a selection of first-fill and refill casks added for nuance.
It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring, aiming to preserve the whisky’s natural character.
The coastal warehouses of Bunnahabhain (on Islay) contribute a salty, maritime influence to the spirit.
Nose (Aroma):
Golden raisins and apricots.
Toasted nuts, especially hazelnuts / almonds.
A subtle floral lift and a hint of sea brine / maritime air.
Palate (Taste):
Malty sweetness with dried fruits (sultanas, figs).
Nutty character (hazelnut) combined with soft oak spice.
Gentle warming spice — not overly aggressive — balancing with the high ABV.
Finish:
Long and layered: oak spice, light tobacco, and a whisper of sea salt.
Cocoa or dark chocolate nibs come through in the aftertaste.
A lingering saline note, reinforcing its coastal Islay origin.
