This year marks an exciting milestone: Hard Truth finally made its California debut, and I wasn't about to miss the moment. Back in March, I flew out to Indiana to visit the Hard Truth Distilling Co. in person — and what a stunning property it is. The distillery grounds are genuinely beautiful, and the restaurant on-site was an unexpected highlight in its own right.
This trip was all about barrels. I came home with two exceptional single barrel picks: a Cask Strength Sweet Mash Rye and a Double Oaked Sweet Mash Rye. The Sweet Mash Rye was chosen through a full blind tasting — no labels, no bias, just the liquid doing the talking. And as a bit of good fortune, I was also able to secure a pick from their extremely limited Double Oaked Sweet Mash Rye program — a rare allocation I'm still thrilled to have landed.
