Description
2008 Krug "Clos du Mesnil" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne 750mL
Produced by the House of Krug in the Côte des Blancs region of Champagne, France, this 2008 edition is crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes grown in the single walled vineyard “Clos du Mesnil” in the village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The vintage 2008 was harvested between September 18–21, a yield marked by slow, cool ripening offering intense freshness and structure.
This wine exemplifies the house’s artistry in creating a pure expression of terroir — one grape variety, one single-plot vineyard, one year.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: A pale golden hue with delicate mineral reflections and a fine, persistent mousse.
Nose: Initial aromas of crisp citrus (lemon, grapefruit peel), orange madeleine cake, fresh almond, light toasted brioche, and a signature note of menthol/green spice characteristic of this vineyard.
Palate: Intense and chiselled. Flavours of crisp green apple, pear, candied citrus (especially grapefruit and orange), barley sugar sweetness, white stone fruit (apricot/pear), mineral flint/limestone, and a chalky undercurrent. High-tension acidity keeps everything lively and long.
Finish: Long, elegant and deeply mineral. A refined balance of citrus zest, chalk, toasted almond skins, subtle oak/truffle notes and saline sea-shell whispers. A wine built to age further — mature yet with many years ahead.
