Most tequila is measured in months. The finest extra añejo expressions ask for years. Adictivo 14 Year Double Black demands fourteen nearly a decade and a half of patient aging in fine oak, followed by a sherry cask finish that transforms already extraordinary liquid into something that operates in a category almost entirely its own.
This is the Kings Edition. The Double Black. The one that took over two decades to make from the planting of blue Weber agave in the volcanic highlands of Jalisco to the moment this bottle was sealed. Every sip carries all of it.
Extra añejo tequila by law requires a minimum of three years in barrel. Adictivo Double Black gives it fourteen. The blue agave hearts are slow-roasted, traditionally distilled, and then set aside to rest in a selection of fine oak while the world moves on around them. Sherry cask finishing adds the final layer infusing the already deeply aged spirit with dried fruit richness, oxidative depth, and a polished sweetness that only a well-seasoned sherry cask can deliver. The result is a tequila that drinks less like agave and more like a conversation between the finest aged spirits in the world bourbon depth, scotch elegance, and Mexican soul in a single pour.
Tasting Notes
Color: Deep amber with dark reddish-mahogany tones the color of old cognac held up to firelight. Dense, rich, and immediately communicating what the nose and palate are about to confirm.
Nose: The agave is still there, but it has evolved into something unrecognizable from its younger self transformed by fourteen years into a warm, almost meditative sweetness. Dark caramel, toasted vanilla bean, and sun-dried fig arrive first, followed by a slow rise of roasted cocoa, polished leather, and aged sherry. There is no sharpness here, no youth, no rawness. Just an extraordinary calm that takes its time settling into the glass.
Palate: Silky, full-bodied, and deeply layered the entry is effortlessly smooth, almost weightless for how much complexity follows. Toffee and dark molasses lead, giving way to dried cherry, toasted almond, and a subtle whisper of tobacco leaf. The sherry cask influence builds mid-palate as rich dried fruit, warming spice, and a velvety oak sweetness weave together with remarkable cohesion. The agave's natural earthiness grounds everything a reminder that for all its sophistication, this is still tequila, and a proud one at that.
Finish: Long, luxurious, and impossibly smooth. Dark wood, cocoa, and the last echo of dried fruit fade slowly over minutes, leaving behind a warmth that settles into the chest like the end of a perfect evening. There is no harsh exit, no sudden stop just a gradual, graceful fade that makes you want to pour another immediately.
