Since 2018, the Murray Hill Club Special Release series has been Master Blender Nancy Fraley’s showcase, a limited, once-in-a-while release where she pushes the blend further and pairs it with a finish you won’t find anywhere else. Past batches have explored Pineau des Charentes, cider and malt casks, and Normandy Calvados casks, and each one has quickly become a collector’s target.

Batch #5 is built on a deep bench of mature whiskey, with components ranging from 11 to 20 years old. At its core is the oldest bourbon in the blend: MGP’s 21% rye mash bill (75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley) fermented with the Seagram’s-heritage “Q” yeast strain, a rare and sought-after combination among bourbon enthusiasts. For the first time in the series, the blend is then finished in white ice wine casks. Ice wine is made from grapes left to freeze on the vine, which yields an intensely concentrated, honeyed wine balanced by bright acidity, a character that layers naturally over well-aged bourbon. The result is bottled at a robust 111 proof.

Murray Hill Club Special Release batches are produced in very limited quantities and allocated only to select retailers carrying the full Joseph Magnus portfolio. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
