Most Kentucky rye doesn't get anywhere near 80% rye. R80 does. With 80% rye, 12% corn, and 8% malted barley, this 7+ year Kentucky Straight Rye lets the rye grain really show through.
It starts with toasted sugars, almost like crème brûlée, followed by spearmint and a little cherry cordial sweetness. On the palate, lemon pound cake, chewy caramel, honey tea, and cream soda bring a silky but chewy texture.
The finish keeps changing. Spearmint and citrus give way to root beer, cherry candy, black pepper, grapefruit, and tea before settling into brown sugar and vanilla.
