Marci Palatella built her reputation hunting down forgotten barrels of extraordinary American whiskey before anyone else knew to look. Decades later, that same obsessive pursuit of quality defines every bottle under the Rare Perfection label. The 10 Year Old Vintage 2016 is her latest statement: a Kentucky straight bourbon that spent a full decade in oak, bottled straight from the barrel at 129.2 proof — exactly as it came out, with nothing taken away.

The Whiskey

Produced at Preservation Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, Rare Perfection 10 Year is crafted from a traditional mash bill of corn, rye, and malted barley. These barrels were originally evaluated for the Rare Perfection 8 Year release, then personally selected by Marci and Master of Maturation Kyle Lloyd to continue aging through two additional Kentucky summer cycles — the most punishing and transformative seasons a bourbon barrel can endure. The result is a profile that has pushed deeper into darker, richer territory while preserving the sweeter core that defines the Rare Perfection house style. Each batch contains just one to three barrels. Each bottle is numbered.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Burnt brown butter, crème brûlée, mint tea, charred oak, brown sugar, and faint cinnamon raisin toast — complex from the first inhale
• Palate: Spiced raisin, caramel, cinnamon stick, brown sugar crumble, rye spice, aged oak, and rich baking spices with leather and tobacco depth
• Finish: Long and building — spiced raisin, cinnamon heat, charred oak, light leather, and a slow-rolling wave of rye spice that refuses to quit
