Rest & Be Thankful Longpond 1998 23 year Single Cask Jamaican Rum 700 ml
There is a particular kind of rum that can only come from one island, one distillery, and one style of still — and that has been given enough time to fully become itself. Rest & Be Thankful's Long Pond LSO 1998 is exactly that. Distilled at one of Jamaica's oldest and most respected distilleries using the storied Lluidas Plantation pot still, aged quietly for 23 years, and bottled at natural cask strength without filtration, additives, or coloring.
This is not rum made for cocktails or casual pours. This is rum made for people who understand what 23 years in a barrel actually means.
Distilled in 1998 using the LSO mark on the Lluidas Plantation (Trelawny Pot) pot still. Aged for 23 years in a single cask — acquiring depth, complexity, and the oxidative transformation that only comes from two-plus decades of contact with wood. Bottled at natural cask strength, 57.6% ABV, without chill filtration or additives. The result is a rum that carries the full, unmediated character of both the distillery and the barrel — nothing masked, nothing softened, nothing added.
Fewer than 200 bottles of this cask exist worldwide.
Tasting Note
Nose: Complex and alive from the first moment — the LSO mark announces itself with the aromatic intensity that defines Long Pond's finest output. Candied tropical fruit opens immediately: ripe pineapple, preserved mango, and overripe papaya layered with a bright, fresh note of sugarcane juice and lime zest. As the glass breathes, deeper layers emerge — green olive brine, dried wildflowers, and a faint wisp of oak resin. The 23 years of aging show in the way everything is woven together: the esters that would be sharp in youth have mellowed into something seamless and inviting, with a refinement that rewards a patient nose.
Palate: Dense, serious, and deeply satisfying — the cask strength arrives with conviction but without harshness. The tropical fruit character of the nose gives way to a richer, roasted depth on the palate: cacao, dried raisins, dark fig, and preserved tropical fruit concentrate into something almost confited. The pot still character — that unmistakable quality of weight and presence that only traditional Jamaican distillation delivers — is present in every sip, grounded by two decades of oak tannins, demerara sugar, and a gentle warming spice that builds slowly through the mid-palate. A few drops of water open the rum considerably, revealing fresh citrus peel, toasted vanilla, and a leathery depth that lingers long.
Finish: Long, persistent, and elegant — the oak takes the lead as the fruit fades, leaving behind a dry, complex finish of roasted wood, salted caramel, dark chocolate, and a breath of Jamaican earth. The ester signature of the LSO mark reappears gently at the very end — a quiet, fruity echo that stays well past the last sip.
